“It’s not haunted, it’s  enchanted.”

Per the federal grant, the City must open the museum free of charge four times per year through 2020. The FOVM will conduct the tours on behalf of the City. Tours will be on the half hour, and registration is requested but walk-in will be taken if there is room on the tours after registered guests. City registration is through www.SDRecConnect.com.

The exterior of the Villa is a feast for the eyes. (The Villa exterior is in need of painting, and that will be Phase 3 restoration.) You are welcome to see the Villa exterior from the public right of way. The physical location of the Villa is the corner of 20th and K Streets in the Sherman Heights Historic District.

Walking Tours of Sherman Heights

Learn more about the Villa and the Sherman Heights Historic District by taking a two-hour historical and architectural walking tour of Jesse Shepard’s neighborhood. You’ll see the exteriors of the original Sherman farmhouse and the mansion that Mayor Sherman built. You’ll learn how the growth of San Diego and of Sherman Heights are related. You’ll understand why our historic district’s period of significance is 1868 - 1930.

Walking tours are scheduled for your group of 8 or more people. Contact us if you have a group that would like to schedule a walk.

If you are an FOVM member, the tour is complimentary for you and a guest. If you are not a member, we suggest a $20 donation per person.
